Emergency Assistance

Emergency Assistance grants are available to prevent homelessness and keep an individual or family in their homes in the Kansas City Metro area. As with all Housing Assistance Programs, access to these funds begins with a referral from the candidate's case manager. NO DIRECT APPLICATIONS FROM CANDIDATES CAN BE ACCEPTED.

Eligibility & Program Guidelines
  • Applicants may apply one time for assistance, with grants based on household size not to exceed Fair Market Rent (FMR) for the household size.

  • Allowable expenses are for utility assistance, rent or mortgage which will be paid directly to the utility company, landlord or mortgage company.

    Phone, cable, internet bills, legal fines or car repair bills are examples of items that are not allowable expenses.


  • Eligible candidates must be in case management and be disabled.

  • The Case Manager is to assess the need and make the referral based on factors such as compliance with medical care, drug or alcohol usage/abuse and other situations as the case manager sees fit. The Case Manager is not obliged to make this referral, and must do so only if the Case Manager assesses that this assistance is appropriate.

  • An application for these funds must include the following:

    A copy of the bill to be paid is needed to substantiate the request. This will be the utility bill, lease or mortgage coupon depending on the request.

  • Grants are based on household size not to exceed Fair Market Rent (FMR) for the household size for the Kansas City Metro Area.

  • One time assistance only.
